The purpose of this assignment was to create a repeating pattern with a variation that added interest and moved the eye around the work.

I had so many different ideas going into this assignment. I kept making designs and throwing them out. I learned a lot in Photoshop during this process, but not having a clear vision created a lot of indecision with little progress. I really wanted a sort of retro camping print and was inspired by the colors of some vintage, paint-by-numbers projects. I’ve also been listening to Noam Chomsky’s newest publication, Climate Crisis and the Global Green New Deal, which I recommend.  I have also been listening to podcast, Drilled, which has a lot of insights into the history and current trajectory of the fossil fuel industry and climate change.

For this assignment, I created a picture in Photoshop with mostly round/hard brushes with 100% opacity and a variety of layers. I had to merge these layers in order to resize the picture and create a pattern from it. I then created a new document and filled it with the new pattern. In order to create movement and variety. I added some rendered a selection of a few rectangles with clouds at 50% opacity. I also created a path at the bottom to add a fire filter to add to the forest fire theme.
