The purpose of this assignment was to create an asymmetrical design using a single letter repeated in different ways.  Although asymmetrical, there are too many lines in this work. Together they work to create a more symmetrical balance.  I enjoyed the idea of this assignment and may do another version more to the point when I have some free time.

I chose to make this asymmetrical design linear to contrast to balance the round C’s. I did columns and rows of four varying sizes. The area where these columns and rows meet is off center but the lines of letters extend to the opposite borders, again, for balance. The background gradient although not strictly black and white does fade to black to add weight to the upper right and lower left corners. I did two rows of with low opacity in each of these corners as well. I didn’t want them to match but to coordinate. I also did duplicate layers of the bold black C’s in a background fill color. I distorted these layers with the liquefy effect to add an organic element. It is reminiscent of drinking cups of coffee with cream while reading.
